Structural Geologist
Welcome
This is my personal space where I share my research, my teaching and with time, it will contain more interesting things related with geology, specifically, about Structural Geology as well as Geological Mapping.
Something about me
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Universitat de Barcelona and an assistant lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Additionally, I have several years of experience working as a geoscientist and business developer, focusing on basin evaluation for both Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and hydrocarbon exploration, as well as opening new business lines globally.
In my previous role at CGG, I held a dual position as a seismic interpreter and business developer, reporting directly to senior management. My primary responsibility was to lead seismic interpretation projects, integrating both legacy and newly acquired data to assess the potential of various regions. This included re-evaluating existing projects and presenting the findings to management. I was responsible for evaluating all South American countries and the Caribbean for hydrocarbon exploration, as well as for establishing a new market for CCS. Furthermore, I contributed to business development efforts in South America, successfully securing three projects across different countries. These roles allowed me to apply my multidisciplinary skills, acquire new ones, and collaborate with various teams within the company.
Before joining CGG, I worked as an exploration geologist and data manager at Gas Natural Fenosa, where I specialized as a seismic interpreter and geomodeller. My work focused on regional studies, prospect definition in hydrocarbon exploration and production, as well as gas storage.
Earlier in my career, I served as a postdoctoral researcher and external structural geology consultant at the Geomodels Research Institute and the Geodynamics and Basin Analysis Group, both at the University of Barcelona. I worked on projects in the Zagros, Pyrenees, and Ebro and Duero foreland basins.
I completed my degree in Geology in 2009 and subsequently joined a PhD program, earning an MSc in 2010 and a PhD with honors in July 2014. My PhD research focused on determining changes in structural style (from thick- to thin-skinned) and tectono-stratigraphic relationships in the Basque-Cantabrian Pyrenees to assess the potential of the area for Carbon Capture and Storage.
I have a strong background in structural geology (including inverted, contractional, and salt tectonic settings), geophysical interpretation, 2D/3D structural modeling, surface and well data integration, balanced cross-section construction, structural restoration, and tectono-stratigraphic analysis. I am proficient in industry-standard platforms for seismic interpretation, well correlation, 3D structural modeling, and balanced cross-section construction and restoration (such as Schlumberger's Petrel, Midland Valley's Move, IHS Kingdom Suite, Paradigm's GoCad, and Ellis Paleoscan).
I have actively participated in several research projects for both industry and academia, demonstrating leadership abilities, enthusiasm for teamwork, mentoring skills, and a willingness to travel internationally. I continue to engage in research and publish scientific articles as a means to refine my skills and learn new methodologies applicable to carbon capture and storage and hydrocarbon exploration. I maintain an optimistic and constructive attitude when facing new challenges, enjoy meeting new people, and easily adapt to new situations.
